The function keys on a keyboard or the special middle keys on a keyboard can control, among other things, system size and media playback. On Windows 10, when you use these keys to play or pause media, or to change the volume, you will see an on-screen notification showing the change.
The general consensus about Windows 10 book media controls is that they are horrible; they take up too much space and stay on screen longer than most users like. There is no way to reduce his ‘time off’.
Replace Windows 10 media controls
If you don’t like the basic view you get when you change the volume or play / stop media through the keyboard, you can replace it with another one. There are apps that come with a skin for these controls but we recommend trying ModernFlyouts.
- Download ModernFlyouts from the Microsoft Store.
- Run the app.
- Adjust the volume and / or play / stop media to the new, modern media controls.
Disable Windows 10 media controls
We recommend ModernFlyouts for a number of reasons but one good reason to try the app is that you can use it to turn off the volume center controls completely.
- Run ModernFlyouts.
- Double-click its icon in the system tray to open the app settings.
- Go to General tab.
- Fo Default Flyout, select the ‘None’ option.
- The media brings Windows 10 controls are disabled
Note: You can still use the action keys or the media keys on the keyboard to play stop media and change the volume. They work but you will no longer see the on-screen notification for it.
Reduce the volume of Windows 10 volume control out of time
If you think that Windows 10 ‘s media controls stay on the screen a little too long, you can reduce the time taken by ModernFlyouts.
- Run the app.
- Double-click the app’s icon in the system tray to access its options.
- Go to Personalization tab.
- At the bottom, in the Behavior section, set how long the controls should be stay on screen in milliseconds.
Note: we found the default option 2750 ms to be valid but you can increase or decrease it. This setting will not be applied to Windows 10 stock media controls.
Move volume media controls
The fill media controls that ModernFlyouts install appear in the top left corner but can be moved to any other part of the screen. Just click and drag the controls to their new position.
The new setting only applies to ModernFlyouts controls and not Windows 10 stock controls.
ModernFlyouts just doesn’t impose volume media controls today. It also adds controls for brightness, enable / enable brightness, and enable / enable caps etc. They are all basically enabled.
