Windows 11 has a new UI. The neat toggles and panels that users had access to on Windows 10 have been moved or redesigned to make them less useful than they were on Windows 10. On Windows 11 you have to -now go through the Settings app to get to basic settings that were much easier to access on Windows 10.
WiFi password on Windows 11
When connecting to a WiFi network on Windows 11, you first need to enter the password for the network. All you have to do is enter the password. As long as the password for the network does not change, you will automatically connect to the network when it is in a domain. The password is stored locally.
Check WiFi password on Windows 11
The WiFi password is stored on Windows 11 and users can check it whenever they need. You need to be connected to a WiFi network to see the password for it.
- Open Control Panel.
- go to Network and internet.
- Choose Network and sharing center.
- Click on the WiFi network to which you are connected.
- In the window that opens, click the Wireless Buildings button.
- In the window that opens, enable the ‘Show characters’ option and confirm with the admin password.
Check WiFi password for other networks
If you want to see the password for a WiFi network that you have previously connected to, but are not currently connected to, you can. Unfortunately, you can’t do this through the GUI. You must go through the Command Prompt.
- Open Prompt command.
- Run this command:
netsh wlan show profile - Note down the the name of the WiFi network you want to find the password.
- Run this command:
netsh wlan show profile “WiFi network name” key=clear - Scroll down and look for the Key content value to find the password for the network.
- Repeat for other networks.
Note: When you run the command in step 4, make sure the name is enclosed in duplicate values.
Conclusion
On Windows 7, it used to be easy to see the password for the WiFi network you’re currently connected to. It changed in Windows 10 to make it harder to bring up this particular window. The change was not rolled out in Windows 11. The Control Panel is still present on Windows 11 so the process for looking up the password for a WiFi network is pretty much like which was in Windows 10. If you choose to forget WiFi network, you will no longer be able to view your password.
