Slack audio issues may be network-related if they occur while you are in trouble. They can also be triggered by your local audio preferences if you are having trouble sending an audio message. Slack Restart

One of the simplest ways to troubleshoot any app is to restart it. Slack is no different.

  1. Open Slack.
  2. Go to File> Quit Slack.
  3. Once the application has stopped completely, reopen it.

Check audio device

Check which audio device is set to be your default audio device. If you have more than one audio device connected to your system, Slack may not be using the one you are talking to.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Go to Hardware & Audio.
  3. Click on Sound.
  4. Go to the Registration tab.
  5. Right-click on the input tool you are using and select Set as default device.
  6. Go to the Playback tab.
  7. Right-click on the output device you are using, and select Set as default device.
  8. Slack Restart.

Take a look at Slack audio devices

Check if Slack is set up to use the correct audio device. If you are using a device that is not active, you will not be able to send or receive audio.

  1. Open Slack.
  2. Click on your profile and select Options from the menu.
  3. Go to the Audio & Video tab.
  4. Open the drop for microphone and speakers and select the custom active audio device.

Check your network speed

For audio to work ie so that you can broadcast and receive audio, you need a stable and reasonably fast internet connection. Slack recommends a minimum of 200Kbps for a voice call but requires as much as 2Mbps if the call is to have more participants.

Look at the use of audio devices

If your audio device is being used by another app, Slack will not be able to use it. Unable to take control of a different app. Take a look at all the apps running on your system, and that could be using either the speakers or the mic. The first type of app you should look for is a screen recording app or any other audio / video conferencing device. Quit these app types and restart Slack.

  2. Go to Programs> Install Program.
  3. Select Slack and click the Uninstall button.
  4. Once installed, download and reinstall Slack.
