Windows 10 has two editions; Home and Pro. The Home version is used for personal use which means that you are the system administrator and that the use of software or a group policy setting cannot be enforced on your system.

Windows 10 Home can be used with any Microsoft Account; personal or work or school account. Doing this will not automatically update your Windows 10 Home to the Pro version (this is not possible without a clean install) but it may bring some limitations and settings to the OS.

If you open the Settings app on Windows 10, and see the message ‘Some settings are managed by your organization’ in special panels, this may be due to the account being you are using or it may be a bug. Here’s how to fix it.

1. Check Microsoft Account

The first thing you should do is check which Microsoft account you are using on the system. You should use your personal account and not an account issued by a company. Doing this will disable the settings you can change on Windows 10 and you will see that some settings are controlled by your organization’s message.

  1. Open the Configuration application with keyboard shortcut Win + I.
  2. go to Accounts.
  3. Take a look at the email account.
  4. If you are logged in with a work or school account, switch to a local account.
  5. Go to Work or school account tab.
  6. Remove listed work or school accounts.

2. Change Windows telemetry settings

Windows 10 allows users to share diagnostic information with Microsoft. You can choose to share the minimum information required, or you can choose to share more than is necessary to help improve Windows 10. These options, when enabled, can , cause some situations governed by your organization ‘s message appearing.

  1. Open the Configuration application with keyboard shortcut Win + I.
  2. go to Privacy.
  3. Select the Diagnostic tab and feedback.
  4. Change the telemetry setting from ‘Optional diagnostic data’ to ‘Required diagnostic data’.
  5. Restart the system.

3. Review the organisation’s policy

Some situations are managed by your organization error appearing on both Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro. On Windows 10 Pro, it may appear because you have changed the group policy settings.

  1. Tap on the Win + R keyboard shortcut. to open the run box.

  1. Tap on the Win + R keyboard shortcut. to open the run box.
  2. In the run box, apply regedit and tap on the Enter key.
  3. go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/WindowsUpdate
  4. Remove Wuserver value from the pan on the right.

5. Remove third-party apps

Many Windows 10 users install apps that disable telemetry on the OS, and prevent updates or restart attempts. These apps work as expected but can lock some settings which is why some options are governed by your organization’s message display. Remove an app like that you installed and reset things back to their default settings.

6. Check antivirus settings

Windows 10 comes with a built-in antivirus app; Windows Defender, however, is free to install third-party anti-virus apps. These apps can block all types of services including the telemetry service. If you have installed a third-party anti-virus, check if it blocks Windows 10 service.

You can also try disabling the anti-virus and letting Windows Defender see if the message is off. If it does, you will need to whitelist the services that the anti-virus is blocking.

7. Check hardware permissions

Internal hard drives are used to install and boot OS, and to store files locally. They will also be used to provide backup. Some hard drives that want to create and store backups have different read / write permissions. If you are using a hard drive as your boot driver, that may be why you are seeing some situations controlled by your organization ‘s message.

You can look into ways in which you can change the drive permissions or you can try to update the drive. The only other option is not to change the situation you are trying to change ie, the panel showing some situations is governed by your organization’s message.

8. View scheduled activities

Some scheduled actions may indicate that certain situations are governed by your organisation’s message.

  1. Open Action logger.
  2. Under the A safer set of network tasks, Look for Spybot Anti-Beacon.
  3. Right click on it and disable it.
  4. Restart the system.


Some settings are managed by your organization is a vague message that Windows 10 displays when certain settings have been locked. The message does not tell you why the situation is disabled so you are usually left out on your own. Make sure that you have not installed applications that make system-wide changes or take control of critical OS functions e.g., managing network activity.
