How to Authorize a Computer on iTunes (FIXED)

How to authorize your computer on iTunes

If you try to login to iTunes and you see that the computer has no error to run iTunes, the configuration is very simple.

1. Check Apple ID

Make sure you are using the correct Apple ID to log in to iTunes. If so, you should use the same Apple ID to sign in to iTunes that you use on your iPhone.

To check the Apple ID you are using on your iPhone, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Options app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on your profile at the top.
  3. Take a look at the an email address in your name on Apple ID screen.
  4. Sign in with the account on iTunes.

2. Remove Authorized Computers

Apple allows Apple ID to sign in to iTunes on different systems, however, you can only sign in to five different systems. After that, if you try to login to iTunes installed on the sixth computer, you will see that the computer is not authorized to run iTunes message. The only way to get rid of it is to remove one of the authorized computers.

  1. Visit Apple and sign in with your Apple ID you are trying to use in iTunes.
  2. Scroll down to Equipment section.
  3. Choose a tool and click Remove from account.
  4. Sign in to iTunes.

3. Install and reinstall iTunes

ITunes is usually a stable app but that doesn’t mean it can’t be in trouble now and then. Updating with the app or running Windows 10 may cause issues with it. Try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.

To uninstall the desktop version of iTunes;

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. go to Programs> Enter a program.
  3. Select iTunes and click on Uninstall at the top.
  4. Restart the system.

To uninstall the Microsoft Store version of iTunes;

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Go to List of apps.
  3. Right click on iTunes and select the Option without installation.
  4. Restart the system.

Reinstall iTunes and sign in with your Apple ID.


The computer “Authorized to run iTunes error” is usually caused by too many computers connected to the same Apple ID. Keep the authorized desktop number at 5 or lower than 5 so that you do not see this error. If you have a device that is authorized to use your Apple ID but you no longer use or own it, remove it and release a slot for your system.
