Google Meets is another meeting/video service from Google. It just doesn’t compete with Zoom Teams or Microsoft. The features aren’t even close but Meet for a quick video call.
Meet is completely embedded in the web browser and that is what basically allows anyone to use it in a second or two as long as a browser is available. That also limits what features it supports but is the only way to keep it lightweight and easy to use.
Picture in picture Google Meet
Google Meet does not have images by default. It can backfire well but there is no way to move video to a corner of the screen. To do that, you need an extension called MeetInOne.
MeetInOne is available for Chrome and Safari. There’s also a separate macOS app with a Windows 10 app in the works.
- Install MeetInOne in your browser.
- Join Google Meet meeting.
- Picture-in-picture is enabled by default.
- Click on the image at the top left.
- The video goes into picture-in-picture mode.
Other Google Meet features
MeetInOne can add an amazing list of features to Google Meet. To activate them, click on the app icon and you will see a long list of exchangers that enable your feature.
The features it can add are;
- Dark mode.
- Auto-mute on membership.
- Automated video of membership.
- Tap the waiting screen.
- Find a visible bar at the bottom (where the controls appear).
- Push-to-talk with the space bar capable of welding / unlocking the mic.
- Auto reject and auto accept partners.
- Auto opens the chat.
- Auto enables captions.
- Meeting time, and more.
MeetInOne has a desktop app and the Chrome or Safari extension has the option to open the app. You can sign up to try out the Windows app. There is no need for the desktop app to use Meets or use the extension.
Meet exists as an independent online tool from other Google services. Works with any modern browser and works without a Google or Gmail account. During this year when most chat apps have added features to compete with the growing application, Meet has only added Gmail integration. It doesn’t compete with Microsoft Teams and is waiting to be added with more sophisticated features. Meets as it is. You can use Hangouts instead if you want to use Google results. Outside of Google results, there are many other options.
