Windows Defender blocks all kinds of threats on your system. In some cases, it identifies the threat for what it is eg a trojan or an app with trojan-like behavior.
One type of threat that Windows Defender identifies with PUA. PUA is a potential app. It’s not terribly dangerous but you may not know what’s possible.
Torrent clients are the types of apps that Windows Defender usually flags as PUAs and Win32 / Presenoker is the file type it detects.
Win32 / Presenoker may be malicious. It actually comes down to the app it features. It is up to you to understand whether you want to allow or block the application.
Disable or block PUA: Win32 / Presenoker
The decision to allow or block PUA: Win32 / Presenoker should be based on the app with which it is assigned. Win32 / Presenoker is not always safe even though it has been identified by a torrent client as not all torrent clients are safe or secure.
Make sure your torrent messenger (or whatever Windows Defender-inspired app is) is safe. Confirm your download through its Hash, make sure you only download a file from its official source and not from an app store, and run the action through its Scan VirusTotal.
Remove PUA: Win32 / Presenoker
If you have decided that you want to remove Win32 / Presenoker, Windows Defender will be able to remove it from your system easily. You only have administrative rights over the system.
Before removing Win32 / Presenoker from the system though, you should understand that you will probably need to remove the app that came with it as well or Windows Defender will continue to appear.
- Open Windows Defender.
- go to Virus and threat protection.
- You will see a list of flags items under the prevailing Risks.
- Click on the ‘Low’ drop next to Win32 / Presenoker.
- Verify with the admin user.
- Select Remove from the list of options.
- Click Start tasks.
- Stay tuned Windows Defender to remove the threat.
- Repeat for highlighted apps and Windows Defender.
Windows Defender can get false positive ie, safe object is marked as dangerous. In that case, be absolutely sure that the app is reliable.
When the Win32 / Presenoker is identified;
- Open Windows Defender.
- Go to list of current Threats under virus and protection from threats.
- Click See details under Win32 / Presenoker.
- Take a look at what an app or file is displayed and whether you know it or not.
- If not, of course it is malicious.
Repeat flags after removal
If after you remove Win32 / Presenoker and the app that came with it, you get alerts for a potentially unwanted app, and it is the only one you have quarantined or disabled. remove, Windows Defender is basically unable to update the history for removed threats. The threat was removed.
