Windows Media Player is one of the most popular apps that Microsoft has discontinued for UWP apps. WMP was the stock video and audio player on Windows 7 and allowed users to burn CDs, create playlists, and organize their music as well as videos.
Both the Movies & TV app and the Groove music app fall short of most of the features available on Windows Media Player. The only drawback of the Windows Media Player app is that it cannot play all file types eg MKV files.
Windows Media Video Not Showing
If you are using Windows Media Player and it does not show you any video playback, it may be a problem with the application or the video file itself.
Here are a few things you can try to solve the problem.
1. View the video file
It is often difficult to play video files in media files reliably in Windows Media Player. Check if the file is playing in other media players eg, the Movies and TV app or VLC player.
If the video is playing in other players, the problem may be with Windows Media Player.
You should also try to play a different file that is in a compatible file format in the app eg, play an MP4 file in Windows Media Player and in the Movies & TV app. If the file does not play in Windows Media Player, the problem appears to be with the application.
2. Enable play now
Windows Media Player offers various media playback ideas to users; skin view, now playing view, and library view. It is possible that you are in the Library view which does not show the video.
- Play your video in Windows Media Player.
- Once the video is playing, pkeyboard shortcut app Ctrl + 3 to enable Now Playing.
Note: You can change the viewing mode in Windows Media Player from the View menu on the menu bar. Tap on the Alt key to display the menu bar.
3. Install and reinstall Windows Media Player
If Now Playing is unable to display the video, there may be a problem with the Windows Media Player. Try uninstalling the app, and reinstalling it.
- Open the Options app (Keyboard shortcut Win + I).
- go to Apps.
- Click Optional features.
- Fo Installed Features, select Windows Media Player.
- Click on Uninstall.
- Once submitted, restart the system.
- Open the Options app.
- go to Apps> Optional Features.
- Click ‘Add Feature’.
- Enter Windows Media Player in the search bar.
- Choose e, and click Install.
4. Use other media players
Windows Media Player is not recommended. It can be installed on Windows 10 but is not going to receive updates. It depends on that at some point, it may not run well on Windows 10. Try a different player like the stock Movies & TV app or VLC player.
Windows Media Player has some great features that you won’t find in many other media players. VLC is the only app that can be launched if you are looking for features and UI that are reasonably easy to learn. It’s no secret that users still love this app and will do all they can to continue using it.
