Windows Update Not Loading and Windows Security Won’t Open? (SOLVED) Windows 10

Updating Windows 10 is easy; the OS will check for updates, download and install updates. Then it will reboot the system to complete the installation and you will come back to the latest Windows 10 device. But what if that doesn’t go according to plan and you can’t load the contents of the Windows Update tab?

Fix Windows Update & Security tab not loading

The Settings app is essential for Windows 10 updates. It allows users to check for updates, know which ones are available, and then download and install them. This is also where users are going to fix problems with Windows 10. If the panel does not load Windows Update & Security, users are blocked from accessing important settings.

Before you start trying to fix the problem, run through those smaller checks.

  • Close and open the Settings app. Select Update & Security and let it load for a few minutes without clicking on any of the tabs.
  • Reboot the system and then try to access the Windows Update & Security tab.

If the tab still doesn’t load, go through the solutions below.

1. Run SFC scan

The Settings app is the main Windows 10 app and if it doesn’t work, it identifies problems with operating system files. The easiest way to fix this is with an SFC scan.

  1. Open Promptly forward with administrative rights.
  2. Run this command: sfc /scannow.
  3. Let the command to complete and repair files.
  4. Restart the system.

2. Run DISM command

SFC scan repairs files but cannot repair everything. For files that cannot be repaired, this is the DISM tool.

  1. Open Promptly forward with administrative rights.
  2. Each of these ran following orders one by one (will take time).
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Once the file repair is complete, restart the system.

3. Create a new Windows 10 account

Your custom Windows 10 account can be corrupted beyond repair unless both SFC scan and DISM repair do the problem. You can create a new user and it will be created with new settings and files without error.

  1. Open the Configuration application with keyboard shortcut Win + I.
  2. go to Accounts.
  3. Select the Family and other users tab.
  4. Click Add someone else to this PC.
  5. Set up a new account for yourself.
  6. Log in with your new account and access the Windows Update tab.
  7. Once you have proven that it works, grant the new Windows 10 account administration rights, and remove the old one.

4. System Update

If you provide a regular system backup ie you have a system restore point, you may be able to save from creating and migrating to a new user account.

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click on the inside of the search bar and enter ‘system’.
  3. From the results, select Create a restore point.
  4. Click on the System Update button on the System Protection tab.
  5. Click on Next and select refresh point.
  6. Proceed with system update.

Conclusion

Creating a new account will largely solve the problem. On the rare chance that it doesn’t, and if you don’t have system update space to go back, you can reset the PC to get a fresh installation of Windows 10.
